Curated by Candy Elsbeth from Nourishing Birth And Beyond
As a registered nurse and hypnobirthing teacher, I really understand the value of understanding the birth process and gaining knowledge to prepare both emotionally and practically for the birth of your baby. If you’re like me, you may be fond of a podcast and you’ll be pleased to know that there are some great resources out there. In this round up, we’ll check out what’s available and what to expect.
The Midwives’ Cauldron
If you’re looking for an informative pod, covering both birth and lactation, this is a great option. With Dr Rachel Reed and Katie James, both UK trained midwives, it’s both comprehensive and interesting.
They speak with experts, discussing their own areas of expertise such as induction, physiological birth and lactation as well as touching on other invaluable topics. This is always my go-to birth podcast that I recommend to clients. After all, knowledge is power.
A great episode to check out has Kemi Johnson as a guest, who is a wonderful advocate for women’s rights in general around birth. As a black woman herself, she speaks to the needs of women of colour in the birth space.

The Obs Pod
This podcast is from Dr Florence, a UK based, NHS obstetrician. With a down to earth approach, no rock is left unturned. In easy to digest, concise episodes, this podcast explores the maternity system, interesting research and common occurrences surrounding pregnancy and birth.
Dr Florence says: “Maybe you enjoy call the midwife, perhaps birth fascinates, or you are simply curious about what exactly an obstetrician is? You might be pregnant and preparing for birth right now. Perhaps you work in maternity care and want to know what makes your obstetric colleagues tick, or you want some fresh ideas and inspiration.”
Evidence Based Birth
If you’re looking for specific, evidence-based topics in relation to birth, this is a great podcast. Hosted by Rebecca Dekker, who is a registered nurse with a PHD, these short episodes give an insight into what current research says. To date there are almost 300 episodes, so you’ll definitely find something catering to your latest question or concern.

Birthing Instincts
With Dr Stu and Midwife Blyss, this is a podcast hosted by an obstetrician and midwife, getting both their view points.
In episode 316 they have Dr Sara Wickham sharing her wisdom. Although Dr Wickham doesn’t host her own podcast, she has written lots of books, debunking the myths and providing evidence for pregnant people, so they can make more informed decisions about their own care. Search her name in your podcast provider, and take a listen to any episode she has participated in, for guaranteed clarity and expertise.
